Say Desolat to any underground music fan and it surely evokes senses of a label excelling in its field of the best releases, parties and DJs.

Loco Dice and Martin Buttrich have worked hard to score a roster of excellent artists under their wing, releasing house and techno fused hits over the past five years.

Adding to this list, are couple Francisco Allendes and Paola Poletto, with their debut for Desolat, named ‘Desolat 024’ – or ‘Animals EP’.

Both artists come from a strong musical background, with Francisco having previous releases on Cadenza and Ghostly International, and Paola being a qualified sound engineer who was the first female to perform at Pacha Ibiza – and now holds a residency at the ultra trendy Ushuaia in Ibiza.

‘Animals EP’ kicks off with ‘Chicken From Cosmo’ a latino tuned beat that fuses together a house bassline with fragrant kicks. It is easy to see the inspiration from both artists – and would perfectly fit into any balearic set – think of Cadenza at Ushuaia and you have it nailed.

‘Ralf The Dog’ gives a humorous, tongue-in-cheek hint at house, moving deeper and harder into the beat – in both melody and vocal. It is a musical narrative of one woman, one dog – and the affectionately named ‘Ralfy’ makes just as much of an impression as the track itself does.

The next track from the EP ‘Gatto Pushon’ regains that throb of a latin beat, building and repeating to a heady, vibrant play. Banging drums layered with effect laden vocals give a sincere feeling of pushing through a soundwall of a track.

The conclusion comes through ‘Lady Sufleta’ – with more of a warped disco techno result – playing harder than the previous efforts on the EP.

Francisco and Paola have managed to bring some sunshine fun with this offering. The tracks blend together well, managing to avoid much of a label and having their own unique stance on the Desolat hallmark. The duo manage to retain the limelight, even though Ralf the dog certainly gives them a run for their money.

‘Animals EP’ is set for vinyl release on 16th July, and digital 23rd July.
