Timmy P

Interview by Amy Peat

Hello Timmy P! Welcome to The Underground Future Heroes!

Thanks Amy!

First off, how would you describe the Timmy P sound?

I would say deep, 90’s, groove influenced, a shit load of snares…. & jackin!

You state Annie Mac as one of your starting points into house music, who else would you say influences you?

I started getting into electronic music listening to Annie Mac, originally into drum and bass and electro. I then checked out Pete Tong and really got into house and it has just become a massive obsession really since then. I then started collecting records/vinyl. My key influences currently have to be Jordan Peak, Huxley & Darius Syrossian (some of the new wave producers out at the moment) also DJ Sneak, Phil Weeks, Kris Wadsworth Kerri Chandler, George Morel & Steve Lawler. Label wise, ONE records, 2020, Tsuba, Strictly Rhythm all stand out for me! Every release is on point.

2011 saw you as the winner of the Ant Brooks DJ talent competition. How would you say this has helped your skills and career?

It just gave me LOADS of confidence when producing, started to take way more risks, and try and find my own sound really. Ant was really sound and taught me a lot. It was definitely a decent starting point for me.

You have had releases on many different labels, including Groove On, owned by house music legend George Morel. How has your experience helped with your own co-run project, Hidden Label?

It was amazing!! Snare Blackout was a bit crazy. I had interest in the track from Steve Lawler for iVAV which is the techno division of ViVA, and George Morel.

Releasing has taught me a lot when it comes to running the label with my two friends Charles Darkly and Alex Blaxx who are both based up in Manchester. We all have a similar taste in house which is great but at the same time are willing to let each other experiment with different sounds and release other “genre’s” of house music.

Previous stars of our Future Heroes section, Cubiq, mentioned your remix of their track on Hidden Label, ‘Say’. Would you have any plans to work with the boys again?

I’d be very keen to work with the guys again. Carlos and Jamie are great guys and doing seriously well. We had fun making Damien the Omen which was a free download we released. So yeah it’s definitely something I’d be down for!

Cubiq also spoke about the scene in your hometown of Oxford. How would you describe it? Did the area have an influence on your love of house music?

The scene in Oxford is definitely growing. When all of the students are away it can be quite tricky during the summer, but there are some really decent nights that run through the summer break which are house orientated such as Simple. These Days is a new night that has sprung up over the the past few months which is also doing really well here. The scene is definitely growing that’s for sure, however still not ideal!

Having previously played gigs at Sankeys and Gottwood festival, where would you love to play in the future?

Sankeys is somewhere I would love to play at again for sure. It’s a wicked club, love the vibe there. Ibiza at some stage would be amazing also, bar that I’m not too picky really, as long as the sound system is good and people enjoy the music I’m sorted!

We hear you are soon to release a track on the Electronique Ibiza summer sampler. Exciting stuff! What else can we expect from Timmy P in the future?

Yeah I’m thrilled to be releasing with Electronique. It’s a solid label and Simon/Kal are great at what they do. Bar that release I have a collaboration coming out with Archie Hamilton on Blackrose records which I’m real excited about, that will be on the summer VA for the label. Then after that a vinyl release with Local Talk and another release on Four Fingers hand. Focusing then really on new originals and collabs!

Is there anything else you would like to let the readers of The Underground know about you?

Just a big thanks to anyone who likes/buys my music! Thanks to Kal, The Underground, Charles Darkly, Alex Blaxx, the Cubiq boys, Ciro Leone & Dan Primaru for all their hard work!
