Welcome to the Underground Jesse! Let’s dispense with idle chit chat and ask the most important questions first. Is there any truth to your ‘pop that pussy’ reputation? Do the UK girls have something to worry about?

Nah lets just say I’m harmless, don’t want the girls in the UK having their guards up while I’m up there..

How are things down at your label Mr. Nice Guy Records? Any big news to report?

Things are good, we have our first edition of the “Head, Sex, and Welfare Checks” release coming out on May 21st. Lots of dope tracks, from really good artist.

What makes Mr. Nice Guy stand out from the crowd?

“No Hype, No All American Smiles. Just Talent & Dick Length”. Hahaha, in actuality I think we stand out because we’re just ourselves. I don’t promote my label like if we were based in Germany or Italy like most do. I don’t pay attention to what others are doing. I think we’re the only label that’s pretty vocal about supporting Big Booty Females. We’re definitely different! A few months back Robert Dietz even posted a screen shot of one of our promos on his Facebook, that said “Are These Guys Serious? Ha”. Not everyone gets us because we don’t follow the same structure that everyone does, but the material we put out speaks for itself .  #Unique #Quality #BumpNGrind

Apart from your own label what up and coming acts get the Jesse Perez stamp of approval and why?

There are a few guys out there that are not on my label that I think are dope. Manik is definitely one. He’s also from the states, and I think he reps us very well. I also dig stuff from Richy Ahmed and Darius Syrossian from the UK.

Your recent big hit released on Hot Creations, ‘Jesse Don’t Sport No Jerry Curl’ made its way on to Pete Tong’s Radio One show. Quite a big deal on these shores. What does the big air play mean to you and would you really never consider the Ice Cube hair style?

That was really a great moment for me. I’ve been writing music for about 9 yrs, I’ve probably been sending Pete promos for the last 6 or 7, unfortunately so does my mom, dad, brother, and barber so I doubt he ever noticed my stuff before. Luckily he got the Jerri Curl promo from the Hot Creations team and liked it. I know theres a lot of good music being sent to him on a daily basis so it’s cool to have gotten a spin from Pete. As for the Ice Cube look, nah I wouldn’t do it! I like my hair short, no maintanence required.

I have to ask what about the track names? There is, ‘Teabagging Sazo’, ‘Here for the Gangbang’ and ‘This Hoe Gonna Get Some Dick’ but to name a few. Would it be safe to say there is an overriding theme here?

I always tell people all the good titles were already taken so that’s all I was left with. I’m a nasty dude! The titles just fit the artist.

Your new upcoming release ‘Hialeah House Party’ being released by Berlin label OFF Recordings has real gritty underground sound. What inspired this dark vibe?

The title inspired it… Oldschool backyard type House parties that use to happen in Miami. With lots Booty music & provocative dancing!

Do you think your involvement in both Hip Hop and House music production influences your sound? Do you prefer one over the other?

Yeah definitely… I grew up listening to both but mostly Hip Hop. I think there is an appropriate time for both. I’m always flipping back and fourth with both, I can’t really choose one over the other. Although the only house music that I really listen to is mine.   I just don’t like listening to a lot of Djs playing it. I really only enjoy how I play it, I know it sounds bias but it’s the truth. I’m very picking with track selection and grooves. I like grinding, not so much dancing so thats why my music sounds the way that it does.

Your production output is prolific to say the least. What motivates you to create such a vast amount of quality music?

I’m always inspired, The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is turn on my computer and listen to what I worked on the night before. It takes me about 2 hours after I wake just to eat breakfast because I wanna work on a track that bad. I work on music everyday, all day long. I start around 12pm until 2-3am. Everyone has their calling, making music is mine. If I was to die today, just like 2Pac I’d have albums being released for the next 10yrs.

Are there any club residencies that you are involved with that we should be attending?

I’ve had residencies years back when DJ’s were actually DJ’s. Unfortunately at the moment club residencies in Miami are reserved for Club Owners / Promoters. When talent becomes a demand again I hope to have a place to play at more frequently. Although I have been fortunate enough to collab with Miami Rebels on a few events this year. Everything these guys put together is always great.

What do you class yourself as? International DJ, house music impresario, record label mogul or porn king?

I’m just an ordinary guy that is good at multiple things. I’m not the best at one, I’m just versatile.

What is next on the horizon? What does the future hold for Mr. Jesse Perez and Mr. Nice Guy Records?

Lots of sleepless nights and being away from home. As for the label we have some cool parties and releases cumin out this summer from some very talented guys. Can’t wait to show everyone!
